Introduction

CNAs, Certified Nurse Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, Nurse Aides, or Nursing Aides assist with
performing health care procedures.  It is a demanding position, and requires excellent
communication skills and an even greater amount of patience.  A CNA must have compassion and
dedication to care for people and to work in this typ of career.

Training

CNAs require the least amount of training of virtually all licensed nursing positions.  After training
there is a State administered exam required to become licensed.

Working

Many employers will hire people "in training".  Most work is found in settings like nursing homes,
asisited or independent living environments.  However, others find work in various hospital settings,
such as post-operative care of surgery patients.  Our program offers special training to allow more
opportunity to work in other areas, to become a part of medical and surgical practice staff.

Starting Salary

The pay scale is relatively low for starting salary.  Compensation must be thought of a way to gain
actual clinical work experience and to increase personal value with more experience.  Generally,
more procedure experience means the more rewards.  Licensed CNAs take part-time work and
eventually become full-time and salaries increase.

Advancing Opportunities

CNAs have an excellent opportunity for advancing, since it is generally an entry level position taken.
Many Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and RNs (Registered Nurses) began as CNAs, and they
continued to work performing CNA related procedures until reaching their goals.
